Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
