Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
