Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
