Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked betting on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he would play extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.

The real improvement in his abilities began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would often compete against each other. He was able to access several of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker world today. Howard headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
