Recently, I received a question from one of my students. It stated, "What precisely is pot probabilities and is Texas holdem pot odds method worth pursuing?"

One thing to bear in mind, any kind of Holdem probabilities can and usually do get extremely confusing. Nonetheless, let me break pot odds down in quite uncomplicated terms. Please note that we are only discussing Pot Odds. Not outs, implied probabilities, basic odds or something else like that.

In short, pot probabilities are the probabilities you receive when determining the ratio of the amount of money in the pot to the quantity of money it is going to charge you to call the bet.

For example, let’s say you are heads up with Player A. If there’s $150 in the pot after the flop and Gambler A places a 20 dollars bet it will charge you only 13 % of the pot to stay in the hand. If your likelihood of winning is greater than 13 percent it’s a no-brainer to call because you’d probably have beneficial pot odds.

That’s all there is to it really. Texas holdem pot probabilities boils down to one factor. If your chance of winning is much better than the ratio of the pot size to the wager then you’ve good pot odds. If it is lower than you have bad pot odds.

One additional thought about Hold’em pot probabilities. You’re still betting the player more so than anything else. Bet on the player more than your starting hands or the size of the chip stack and even, yes the pot probabilities.

If you’ll be able to learn to read your opponents well you’ll be able to utilize pot probabilities to assist justify or solidify your choice. Except Hold’em pot probabilities do not have to be an end all whenever you generate a poker conclusion.

Knowing and understanding how Hold em pot probabilities work can be a useful and successful strategy. But again don’t produce Texas hold em pot odds your only method.
